Job Control

The Job Control window allows you to effectively manage your BlueSky Integration Studio jobs and monitor their status and performance.  You can open the Job Control window by selecting the View->Job Control menu option or by clicking the Job Control icon on the toolbar.

The following table describes each function available in the Job Control window.

Option

Description

Run

Select a job by clicking on the tree node where your job resides, then select it in the right pane.   Click the Run button.  BlueSky Integration Studio will first contact the server and request information about the job such as whether or not the job is in a compiled state and if it contains parameters.  If parameters exist, the system will prompt you for updated values.  Update the parameter values if necessary and Click OK and the job will execute.

Stop

Select a currently running job and click the Stop button.  BlueSky Integration Studio will submit a request to the server to stop the job.  The server stops the job by setting a flag in the job's control file.  Jobs are designed to check the control file on a regular basis for status information.  When the Stop flag is encountered, the job will make every attempt to exit cleanly by closing any open database connections or file handles.

Reset

If a job is in a Stopped or Aborted state you can click the Reset button to reset the job.  This function will reset the job and all related status files and control files back to a Ready state.  The job will only be reset if it is not in a 'Running' state.

** NOTE: If you need to FORCE Reset a job, only in instances where your sure the job may be hung or out of sync with the repository status, you may also hold down the Ctrl Key while you click the Reset button.  This will Force a reset of the job status in the repository.

Monitor Job

The job monitor window allows you to monitor a jobs statistics in real-time.  As data flows through the process it is constantly updating the record counts and timed statistic information in the server repository.  By opening the monitor window you can peek into the job to monitor its progress and performance.  You can also control how often the client will query the repository for updated statistic information.

View Job Logs

Each job is designed to report status information, warnings and errors to the jobs log file.  You can view the log file at any time, even when the job is running.  The job will write as much information as possible to make it easy for you to determine the exact causes of warnings and errors so that you can quickly resolve them.  NOTE:  The job log is designed with a lazy-write feature for performance reasons.  Log entries are kept in memory until the grow to a certain size and then the job flushes them to disk.  This feature is designed to prioritize the movement of your data, rather than spending time writing to the log file.

Schedule Job

(Professional and Enterprise Editions only).  The scheduling option gives you the capability to schedule your job for automated execution at a specified time and day.  (see Scheduling Jobs for details...)
